Applications Kit helps deliver benefits of DigiPyroTM digital motion detector

27 Feb 2007

Pacer International has announced the availability of a new Applications Kit to enable users of the DigiPyro™ digital pyrodetector to make quick motion detection measurements.

Pacer International has announced the availability of a new Applications Kit to enable users of the DigiPyro™ digital pyrodetector to make quick motion detection measurements and save this data in ASCII format - ready to load into any spreadsheet application. Manufactured by PerkinElmer Optoelectronics, and marketed and supported through Pacer USA LLC in North America, the DigiPyro™ PYD 1998 dual element pyrodetector provides users with clear performance advantages over traditional analog pyrodetectors and reduces the cost and space requirements associated with analog circuitry. "Comprising an interface box, USB cable, sensor cable and software, the new Applications Kit has been designed to allow users of the innovative DigiPyro(TM) digital pyrodetector gain the full benefits of digital motion detection quickly and easily," said David House, General Manager of Pacer USA LLC. Until the introduction of the DigiPyro™, traditional detection instrumentation relied on analog signal processing for motion detection applications. To process an analog signal, these detectors require additional system components such as amplifiers, resistors, and capacitors for EMI filtering, and A/D converters, all components that add to system costs without improving performance. While design considerations are different for each customer's equipment, indications are that system costs due to fewer components can be reduced by up to 20%. Impaired by cell phone and other EMI signals, traditional analog pyrodetectors are easily disrupted, making them less reliable in use in home and industrial settings. There is significantly improved EMI immunity with the DigiPyro™. Tests show that the power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) is improved by 30 dB, a 32-fold improvement over the traditional analog pyrodetector technology. Pacer USA LLC is the US subsidiary of Pacer International Ltd. Pacer own-brand products include opto modules and displays. Pacer offers customized opto and display solutions, and full design and manufacturing services for its customers. The company also provides comprehensive distribution of components, displays and systems, through strategic partnerships with principal suppliers. Established in 1988, Pacer has US headquarters in Pennsylvania with the international headquarters in Newbury, Berkshire, UK.
