Newport Introduces Ultrafast Chirped Mirrors and Ultrafast Turning Mirrors with Largest Available Bandwidth

08 Feb 2007

Newport Corporation today announced the availability of Ultrafast Laser Chirped Mirrors, Ultrafast Laser Super-Broadband Turning Mirrors, and Ultrafast Laser Brewster's Angle Dispersing Prisms.

These products are currently available in stock for immediate shipment. "Newport is excited to expand our ultrafast optics product family with these new ultrafast solutions," said Anna Sansan Wang, Newport's Product Manager for Optics. "Each of these optics is an excellent solution for managing pulses from the industry's leading ultrafast sources, such as the Spectra-Physics Tsunami®, Mai Tai® and Spitfire® Pro." Ultrafast Laser Chirped Mirror Newport's Ultrafast Laser Chirped Mirrors are designed to compensate for group velocity dispersion (GVD) with a negative GVD correction value of up to -160 fsec2 per bounce. GVD can be a problem in ultrafast experiments, especially when multiple optics are used. According to Wang, "When used in combinations of two or three mirrors with our clear quadrant optics mounts, these mirrors provide negative group velocity dispersion to an incoming laser beam, which helps to compensate for pulse broadening effects." The mirrors also support a broad wavelength range, enabling use with many kinds of lasers. Their inherent high reflectivity of greater than 99.8% for p- or s-polarization preserves laser beam intensity. They support bandwidth from 700 to 900 nm and have a 20-10 scratch-dig surface quality. "With a powerful combination of features and benefits, our Ultrafast Laser Chirped Mirror is an ideal solution for any ultrafast laser experiment," added Wang. Ultrafast Laser Super-Broadband Turning Mirrors Newport's new Ultrafast Laser Super-Broadband Turning Mirrors are designed to have a minimum effect on pulse dispersion in ultrafast laser experiments. Supporting a bandwidth from 680-1060 nm, they have the broadest wavelength range of any ultrafast laser turning mirror. They also feature a high reflectivity greater than 99.6% and a 20-10 scratch-dig surface quality. "We believe that our new family of Ultrafast Laser Super-Broadband Turning Mirrors offers the broadest bandwidth available in any standard catalog product," said Wang. "In fact, these are the only turning mirrors available on the market that can match the entire wavelength range of the Spectra-Physics Mai Tai HP laser, which has the one of the widest tuning ranges of any commercially available ultrafast oscillator." Ultrafast Laser Brewster's Angle Dispersing Prisms Newport's Ultrafast Brewster's Angle Dispersing Prisms are an excellent choice to compensate for GVD caused by other optics used in ultrafast experiments. They are offered with various indices of refraction, ? ?/10 surface flatness and a 40-20 scratch-dig surface quality. They are available in 15 and 25 mm versions. "Newport now offers three different materials for ultrafast laser Brewster's angle dispersing prisms - SF10, UV fused silica, and LaKL21. While each material has its advantages, our new SF10 prisms have a higher index of refraction. This higher index of refraction prism provides more flexibility for ultrafast experimentalists to pick the most appropriate way to compensate for GVD for their specific setup," added Wang.
