10 Nov 2006 Newport Corp.'s Spectra-Physics Lasers Division has introduced the Explorer™ Scientific, an innovative low power intra-cavity tripled and actively Q-Switched DPSS laser that delivers pulse energies of up to 120 microjoules in the UV (349 nm). Meeting the reliability requirements of the field-proven OEM version the Explorer Scientific has been specifically designed to meet the mounting and safety requirements of table-top use in a research laboratory.

"In fact, the available pulse energy and peak power of the Explorer is significantly higher than what many 4 - 6 W UV lasers deliver at high repetition rates. The Explorer is an easy-to-install Class 3B UV laser and offers excellent TEM00 mode quality, enabling tight focusing and high spatial resolution. The Explorer can be operated from single-shot up to a 5 kHz pulse repetition frequency at variable pulse energies. It utilizes Spectra-Physics' proprietary intra-cavity conversion technology for longer lifetimes and high energy pulses at lower pump powers. The standard pulse energy specification is 120 microjoule at pulse widths of less than 5 nanoseconds. With a pulse-to-pulse stability of less than 3% RMS applications will benefit from an extremely low signal-to-noise ratio. A sophisticated and intuitive LabView® based Graphical User Interface allows customers to interface with the laser via a USB interface.
