12 Dec 2007 Physik Instrumente (PI) a leading manufacturer of nanopositioning and precision motion control equipment for applications in photonics, semiconductors and life sciences offers the new PiezoMove lever-amplified range of actuators. Lever-amplified piezo actuators provide significantly longer travel ranges than direct drive actuators. What sets the PiezoMove products apart are the internal flexure guides which make additional bearings or guidance mechanisms obsolete when integrating them into a nanopositioning system. Three versions are available providing up to 480 microns of travel.
Piezo actuators can move in sub-nanometre increments, however, open-loop devices do not provide linearity or repeatability. PiezoMove actuators are available with integrated absolute measuring position sensor permitting closed-loop operation with 99.8% linearity and nanometre repeatability. The stiff design leads to high resonant frequencies of 750Hz allowing settling times of only a few milliseconds, ideal for highly dynamic applications.
Reliability is assured by the use of award winning PICMA actuators in a sophisticated single module flexure guidance system. PICMA actuators feature ceramic encapsulation thus offering better performance and reliability than conventional actuators. The wire-cut flexures are FEA modelled making them extremely precise and not subject to wear leading to maintenance free operation.
