Ocean Optics Introduces Micro-volume, Disposable Cells for Fluorescence

09 Aug 2006

ALine’s FluoroVettes Are Ideal for DNA Quantitation, Biological Agent Monitoring.

Dunedin, Fla., July 2006 - FluoroVette Flowcells are low-volume, disposable cells for nanomolar-range fluorescence detection in solutions. FluoroVettes hold 50 microliters of fluid, transmit UV light to 220 nm, and are available in versions designed for loading the sample with a pipetter or connecting to a pump for flow studies. At just $125 for 10 disposable cells, FluoroVettes are an economical alternative to expensive quartz cuvettes. FluoroVettes can be used with most any standard fluorometer or as part of an Ocean Optics fluorescence spectrometer set-up, and are useful for applications such as real-time monitoring of chemical or biological agents for competitive displacement assays, high-sensitivity quantitation of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), and ELISA assay development. There are two types of FluoroVettes. The CFV-PIP-SP has inlet and outlet ports at the top of the FluoroVette designed for loading the sample into the FluoroVette with a pipetter. The CFV-PUMP-SP has tubing barbs at the inlet and outlet ports so the FluoroVette can be hooked up to a pump with tubing and utilized as a flow cell. The FluoroVette then is inserted into the CFV-ADP Cuvette Adapter, a $45 accessory with ports positioned at 90° (90 degrees) for fluorescence. The Adapter can be placed into a standard 1-cm fluorescence cuvette holder, such as an Ocean Optics CUV-ALL-UV 4-way Cuvette Holder. California-based ALine Inc. designed the FluoroVettes, which are made of a black, non-fluorescent, Delrin body sandwiched between two 50-µm UV-transparent polymeric films. The films are bonded to the Delrin body with a medical-grade acrylic adhesive that keeps caustic samples such as solvents from leaching. The devices are assembled in a class 10K clean room.
