Master Bond Developed a general purpose UV curable epoxy resin system called UV10 for use in potting, casting, coating, encapsulating, sealing and bonding applications. Master Bond UV10 is a one component, very low, viscosity (350 cps), modified epoxy compound ready for use as supplied. When exposed to a source of UV light, it forms a strong, over 7500 psi tensile strength bond with superior chemical resistance. UV10s unique chemical composition based on a polyfunctional epoxy resin containing an exceptionally effective latent UV curing agent is responsible for its superior performance profile. It cures rigid and stable having a Shore D hardness greater than 65, a COE (CTE) coefficient of thermal expansion of 60 in/in x 10-6/°C, a Tg, glass transition temperature greater than 65°C and an elongation of 4%. UV10 can be cast in thicknesses up to 0.125 inch and has an index of refraction of 1.557.
High bond strengths are obtained with metals, ceramics, glass, paper, many plastics and elastomers. Having superior chemical resistance, it withstands exposure to water, acids, bases, salts and most organic chemicals. Its durability is excellent even when the exposure to adverse environmental conditions including heat and moisture is long term. UV10 is a good electrical insulator with a volume resistivity of 1014 ohm-cm and has a wide service temperature range of -50°C to 120°C (-60°F to 250°F). UV10 also has excellent fatigue resistance, performs well under stress even in adverse environments and has good dimensional stability. It is available in syringes for convenient manual or automatic dispensing as well as in pint, quart, gallon and 5 gallon containers.
