New High Damage Threshold, Low GVD Polarizers for Ultrafast Lasers

25 Apr 2006

Ti:S ultrafast laser polarizers with high extinction ratio, broad spectral bandwidth, high laser damage resistance and minimal group velocity dispersion (GVD).

Alpine Research Optics (ARO, Boulder, CO) offers a new series of thin film polarizers specifically intended for use with Ti:S ultrafast laser systems. These polarizers have been designed to deliver the optimum combination of high extinction ratio, broad spectral bandwidth, high laser damage resistance and minimal group velocity dispersion (GVD). The standard product line includes two different polarizer configurations. The first is designed to deliver maximum transmission (>98%) of p polarized light over the 740 nm to 860 nm wavelength range. The second is optimized to provide high reflectance (>95%) of s polarized light from 700 nm to 900 nm. Both polarizers operate at a nominal 70° angle of incidence, and are tilt tuned over ±3° to optimize performance. They are fabricated on fused silica substrates having dimensions of 28.6 mm x 14.3 mm x 3 mm. Polarizers with custom sizes, shapes, substrate materials and coating specifications can be produced upon request.
