Case Study: Achromatic Laser Beam Expander

This case study focuses on an achromatic laser beam expander designed to magnify a 10mm input beam to a 50mm output beam, achieving 5X magnification at 1064nm and 5.1X at 532nm. Using a four-lens Galilean configuration, it avoids internal laser convergence and ensures wavefront deviations below 0.25λ for both wavelengths. Unlike traditional glued-lens designs prone to damage under high-energy conditions, this system uses air-spaced lenses to achieve chromatic correction. The design prioritizes interferometric performance, calibrated at 633nm, and balances precision with robustness for applications requiring simultaneous multi-wavelength beam expansion.
