ALBANY, N.Y. (June 6, 2011) – SEMATECH today announced the appointment of Richard Young as Vice President of Manufacturing. In this role, Young will oversee strategic development and operations for SEMATECH’s manufacturing-related programs in Albany.

“This latest hire brings additional expertise to SEMATECH, and in turn will raise the level of our manufacturing efforts, enhance our relationships with our partners and further strengthen SEMATECH’s commitment to solving future manufacturing challenges,” said Dan Armbrust, president and CEO, SEMATECH. “I am delighted to have a leader of Richard’s caliber and with his wealth of expertise spanning semiconductor fabrication, lean manufacturing, and efficiency improvement in semiconductor manufacturing operations, he will be an invaluable asset that will help us in refining, growing, and expanding our manufacturing programs at SEMATECH.”

Young brings more than 15 years of industry experience in manufacturing, and joins SEMATECH from Kovio, a venture-backed printed semiconductor IDM, where he was Vice President of Operations. He previously held senior management and engineering positions at Spansion, AMD, Industrial Design Corporation, and Shimizu America Corporation, a subsidiary of Japan’s largest design and build general contractor.

“I’m excited to join SEMATECH,” said Young, who will be responsible for assuring that SEMATECH’s strategic direction and its execution support critical manufacturing areas as well as increasing the depth and diversity of industry participation in SEMATECH's programs. “I look forward to building new opportunities for SEMATECH and finding new ways to strategically leverage our partnerships to continually provide manufacturing productivity improvements to the industry.”

Young holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
