EMCORE Corporation Has Shipped Over One Hundred Thousand Active Optical Cables

ALBUQUERQUE, NM--(Marketwire - 03/07/11) - EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ:EMKR - News), a leading provider of compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the fiber optic and solar power markets, announced today it has reached a significant milestone having shipped over 100,000 EMCORE Connects Cables™, making it the market leader in active optical cables.

EMCORE Connects Cables are used in a variety of interconnect applications including high-performance computing (HPC), storage area network (SAN) systems, distributed-grid networks, cloud computing systems and telecommunications datacenters. These systems require the use of active optical cables (AOCs) because of their light weight, small size and high bandwidth over long distances, making them the preferred alternative to traditional copper cables.

Senior Vice President of LightCounting LLC Brad Smith commented, "As one of the highest growth optical component segments, the active optical cable market has experienced nearly 30% growth from 2009 to 2010 driven by high-performance computing, commercial cloud networks and network/infrastructure expansion.
