Knight Optical Adds Ocean Optics Range of Spectrometers to it's Growing Portfolio

Date Announced: 14 Mar 2025

Knight Optical, a global leader in high-precision optical components, has expanded its already extensive portfolio with Ocean Optics spectrometers.

Kent, 14th March 2025 - As the first new product launch of 2025, Knight Optical has added Ocean Optics Spectrometers to its lineup. This addition presents customers of the high-precision brand with full-spectrum options and bolsters Knight Optical’s position as a one-stop shop for optical needs. The six new spectrometer categories include:

High-Resolution Spectrometers

High-resolution spectrometers are a superior choice for scenarios where exact wavelength identification is required. Offered in three ranges—HR2, HR4, and HR6—they are suitable for a diverse set of fields, such as analysing plasma emissions, pharmaceutical compounds, DNA/RNA, and protein absorption. Moreover, they're also essential for duties like broadband source emission analysis. With their impressive wavelength resolution, these spectrometers achieve the accuracy needed for the most demanding of operations.

High-Sensitivity Spectrometers

The QE Pro high-sensitivity spectrometer is small but mighty, ideal for implementations that call for compact elements. Although little in form, they're reliable in spotting faint signals. This makes them functional for a wide-ranging variety of utilisations. Available in UV-VIS, NIR – and extended-range variants with slit width alternatives in 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200µm – the QE Pro high-sensitivity spectrometer allows for low detection limits and minimal stray light, making it excellent for functions such as DNA sequencing and reaction monitoring.

Near-Infrared Spectrometers

Aimed for scenarios operating in the near-infrared (NIR) band, the NIR Spectrometer range is broken down into three ranges, comprising the NIRQuest+1.7, NIRQuest+2.2, and NIRQuest+2.5. Not only are they flexible – which elevates their performance in assignments like examining biological specimens and tissues, measuring chemical concentrations or even verifying luxury item authenticity, a procedure commonly used to validate high-end designer goods – but their broad spectral range really sets them apart, providing detailed insights into materials, helping researchers gain all-important precision and ensure thorough QC.

Raman Spectrometers

The QE Pro Raman is engineered for high-precision roles like investigating inorganic materials at 532 nm and observing chemical reactions. The model also supports Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS), making it a powerful tool for detecting illicit substances and pesticides at 532 and 785 nm – and trace-level analytes at 638 nm.

Versatile Spectrometers

For instances when space is limited, the Versatile range proposes a compact yet strong solution. These spectrometers adapt seamlessly to varying setups without compromising results. The Versatile model affords users accurate measurements across diverse uses. Available in two ranges, the SR2 and SR4 have specific roles. Starting with the SR2, this model performs well in high light-level absorbance measurements, laser and LED characterisation, and colour and reflectance analysis. Meanwhile, the SR4 is optimised for ultraviolet (UV) absorbance of proteins, fluorescence studies in chemical samples, as well as high-sensitivity analysis.

Microspectrometers

Fine-tuned for those applications where space availability is minimal, these microspectrometers really make an impact and are notably popular for OEM gadgets and inline control systems. They deliver outstanding performance, meaning they are the perfect choice for tasks that require a balance of accuracy and efficiency. Offered in UV (185-650 nm), VIS (350-810 nm), and NIR (645-1085 nm) models, they're true high performers in a variety of functions. Application examples comprise UV-VIS absorbance of biological samples like blood and DNA/RNA, chemical compound fluorescence, colour measurement, LED characterisation, integration into other systems, materials reflectance, and plasma monitoring.

Adapting to the Needs of Different Sectors

With a long-standing customer base in disciplines such as electronics, optoelectronics, defence, aerospace, energy, and manufacturing, the most recent additions to the company's catalogue build on this foundation, providing further optical solutions to a growing variety of domains – particularly in this case, agriculture, medical, research, environmental monitoring, and the industrial/semiconductor sectors.
