Kopin Announces $16M Follow-On Order of Display Modules for Thermal Weapon Sights

Date Announced: 09 Jun 2010

TAUNTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kopin® Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN - News), the largest U.S. manufacturer of display systems for mobile consumer and military applications, today announced it has received a $16M follow-on production order of display modules for the U.S. Army’s Thermal Weapon Sight (TWS) program.

This order, to be fulfilled over a 15-month period starting this September, supports continued production of Kopin’s high-performance 640M display module for the Light, Medium, and Heavy Thermal Weapon Sights (LTWS, MTWS, HTWS).

“This follow-on order is a result of our market-leading position for this critical component to the U.S. military,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. John C. C. Fan. “The reliability of our display module has been proven in the substantial volume of thermal weapon sights deployed over the past few years, which is a result of our extensive testing including shock and thermal cycling.”

“This order, combined with the $27 million TWS eyepiece order from another key customer we announced in April, further strengthens our military business. We look forward to additional orders to follow for our products used in thermal weapon sights.”

Kopin’s 640M display module consists of the company’s CyberDisplay® 640M LCD micro-display, backlight and control electronics packaged in a robust sealed housing to prevent foreign particles. The CyberDisplay 640M display with 640 x 480 (VGA) monochrome pixels in a compact 0.38” diagonal size is manufactured in the class-10 clean room facility at Kopin’s Display Manufacturing Center in Westborough, MA.

The 640M display module is integrated and tested in Kopin’s high level assembly (HLA) manufacturing facility in Taunton, Mass. The HLA facility was commissioned in April of 2008 and is dedicated to the integration, test and delivery of high level display systems for DoD applications. The facility housed in a class-10 clean room for minimizing the generation of foreign particles has extensive capabilities in environmental stress screening (ESS), shock and vibration.
