To boost production capacity of imaging and measurement instruments.

Hamamatsu City, Japan -- Hamamatsu Photonics has been constructing a new factory Building No. 5 at the Joko factory site (Joko-cho, Higashi-ku, Hamamatsu City, Japan) to handle expanding sales of imaging and measurement instruments such as digital cameras for scientific measurement, digital slide scanners for pathology, and semiconductor failure analysis systems. The construction of this new factory is now completed and its operations will start in August this year.

The completion ceremony for this new factory was held on Thursday, July 7.

Hamamatsu Photonics has been developing, manufacturing and selling imaging and measurement instruments that have high speed, high sensitivity and high resolution, making them ideal for a wide range of applications including medical, industrial and academic fields.

Currently there is a continuously increasing demand for digital cameras for scientific measurement, digital slide scanners for pathology, and semiconductor failure analysis systems. Since growing sales of these instruments are predicted, we intend to boost our production capacity to 1.7 times of the current level after operation of this new factory building.

The new factory building provides an expanded space where we can integrate production functions such as assembly and adjustment of digital cameras for scientific measurement and digital slide scanners for pathology, in order to respond to ever-growing product demand. The new building is connected to our existing factory building by a barrier-free connecting corridor, which improves productivity by streamlining the movement of people and goods.

In addition, the rooms have no pillars and the placement of electrical outlets and air conditioning increase the degree of layout freedom, making it more flexible with changes in production volume and product items. By utilizing the space that becomes available in existing buildings after integrating the production functions, we will also expand our production of semiconductor failure analysis systems, as their sales are increasing along with the recovery of the semiconductor memory market.

The new factory building is resilient to flooding because it includes water-proof shutters, water- proof plates, and an emergency power generator and power distribution equipment installed on the roof. The building’s ceiling structure is also designed to resist earthquakes.
