Imec and Bühler Leybold enable high-throughput manufacturing of filter-on-chip CMOS sensors

LEUVEN (Belgium) and ALZENAU (Germany) – Bühler Leybold Optics, a supplier of cutting-edge thin-film vacuum coaters and imec, a world-leading research and innovation center in nanoelectronics, announce that they have qualified Bühler’s HELIOS 800 tool to meet the stringent standards of the semiconductor industry and developed high performance filters for optical image sensors. The enhanced tool opens up many new applications that require a precise deposition of high-quality optical stacks at high manufacturing speed. The development is going to lead to a new generation of high-resolution low-cost hyperspectral imaging sensors.

With over 150 years of experience, Bühler Leybold Optics is a leading supplier of thin-film vacuum coating technology for a variety of applications. Our state-of-the art solutions include: precision, laser or ophthalmic optics applications, coatings for EUV/DUV lithography, patterned optical filters on active device wafers; automotive or architectural glass; coatings on flexible films for capacitors or optical applications. Leybold Optics is headquartered in Alzenau (Germany) with additional production facilities in Raleigh (USA) and Beijing (China).
