System Lowers Cost to Manufacture Advanced LCD and OLED Displays.
SAN DIEGO (January 25, 2011)—Cymer, Inc. (Nasdaq: CYMI), announced today that TCZ, its wholly owned subsidiary, has received a volume order for the TCZ-900B crystallization system from a leading Taiwanese flat panel display (FPD) manufacturer. The TCZ-900B system provides the highest throughput in the industry for Gen 4 tools. The system is used for volume production of advanced liquid crystal display (LCD) and next-generation organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays that are targeted for production of advanced mobile devices and tablet computers.
TCZ has demonstrated large gains in OLED yield due to improvements in laser beam control. The TCZ-900B is expected to significantly reduce the cost and complexity of the OLED manufacturing process, enabling more FPD manufacturers to enter the OLED market.
“The enhancements delivered in our 900B system reflect TCZ’s support of display makers’ requirements to reduce cost and improve yield. This volume order demonstrates our successful efforts in both areas, supporting the growth of new display technologies such as OLED,” said David Knowles, general manager of TCZ.
TCZ’s patented laser crystallization technology is backed by Cymer’s industry-leading light source expertise and unique optics technology. TCZ’s ability to support many different display sizes, while significantly increasing panel throughput, continues to be a driving factor in the acceptance of TCZ tools among display manufacturers.
“This order is in line with our expectation that TCZ’s technology continues to be recognized for the value and performance it delivers,” said Ed Brown, president and chief operating officer of Cymer.
“We are confident that our flat panel crystallization system will continue to gain recognition as a viable solution to drive both lower cost and higher yield for FPD makers.”
