Our premium-quality Germanium Windows are known for their longevity and durability. Capable of blocking UV and visible wavelengths yet permitting infrared from 2µm, transmission sits at over 45% between 2-14µm and up to 45°C. With our bespoke Anti-Reflective (AR) coatings, this can be significantly improved with an average of >85% at 3-12µm on AR/AR-coated Germanium. Furthermore, for ultimate scratch resistance, our Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coatings can be applied alongside AR options (AR/DLC) with an average transmission of >85% at 7-14µm.
A relatively hard material, Germanium is often the material of choice for applications such as thermal imaging as well as Forward-Looking Infrared (FLIR) imaging systems and Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy devices. What makes Germanium an even more sought-after material is its high refractive index. Compared to other typical infrared transmitters on the market, Germanium soars above alternative materials used for lens design. This, coupled with its low optical dispersion, high density and robust strength, has seen the material ascend in population amongst customers seeking reliable infrared optics.
