LZH mourns the loss of founding father Professor Heinz Haferkamp

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr.-Ing. E.h. mult. Dr. med. h. c. Heinz Haferkamp.

Hannover, Germany -- At the age of 86, one of the three founding fathers of the Laser Zentrum Hannover Prof. Heinz Haferkamp has passed away, the center has announced.

Prof. Haferkamp founded the LZH in 1986 together with professors Hans Kurt Tönshoff and Herbert Welling and he had a lasting impact on the institute in more than 25 years on the Executive Board.

More than 700 publications, about 70 memberships in leading scientific organizations, numerous awards and, above all, the co-founding of prestigious research institutions, illustrate the outstanding commitment of Professor Heinz Haferkamp to science.

The LZH stated, “We thank Prof. Heinz Haferkamp for his services to the LZH and send our sincere condolences to his family.”
