Orthogonal Appoints David Fyfe as Chief Executive Officer

Former Cambridge Display Technology chief joins US-based specialty OLED chemicals firm.

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 27, 2019 — Orthogonal Inc., a leader in creating perfectly patterned organic light-emitting diode (OLED) solutions for virtual reality, mobile and television, has named David Fyfe as Chief Executive Officer.

David is a widely-recognized senior executive in the OLED industry. He served as Chairman and CEO of Cambridge Display Technology Limited (CDT) from 2000 to 2010. CDT developed soluble and printable OLEDs based on a discovery at Cambridge University, David’s alma mater. David led CDT from a lab-based early stage venture to a Nasdaq flotation in 2004 and a sale to Sumitomo Chemical for $285 million in 2007. The technology is now being practiced commercially by J-OLED, whose shareholders include Panasonic, Denso and Sumitomo Chemical. In recognition of his leadership of CDT he was awarded, jointly with Sir Richard Friend of Cambridge’s Cavendish Laboratories, the UK’s Institute of Physics Gold Medal for Business & Innovation in 2009.

DeFranco, has been appointed by the board as Executive Vice-President and Chief Technical Officer. This change in roles allows John to focus his efforts on taking the technology to commercialization while supporting the needs of key customers in technology evaluation and adoption.

These organizational changes will bring additional focus to the growth and funding of the company, while simultaneously enhancing marketing of the technology to major manufacturers of displays and sensors; Orthogonal’s target customers.
