Free UK Disk Laser Cell Open Day

Date Announced: 07 Aug 2018

Hosted by Nuclear AMRC, Cyan Tec Systems and Trumpf.

Catcliffe, UK -- The UK’s Nuclear AMRC, Cyan Tec Systems and Trumpf invite industry to discover the latest advances in welding technology and explore a state-of-the-art 16kW laser cell. The Nuclear AMRC, part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, is leading research in high-performance welding techniques for the most demanding industries.

On 02 October 2018, there will be morning or afternoon sessions available for attendees. The venue is the Nuclear AMRC research facility in Catcliffe, near Sheffield, UK. The centre recently invested in a 16kW disk laser system designed and built by Loughborough-based Cyan Tec Systems.

Cyan Tec is a robotic and laser specialist providing advanced manufacturing systems across a diverse range of high-tech sectors including nuclear, aerospace and automotive. Cyan Tec’s highly flexible, high-power laser system at the Nuclear AMRC is already driving cutting-edge projects for the nuclear industry. Measuring 8m x 10m x 7m, the scale of the cell reflects the growing demand across high-tech sectors for laser systems with advanced handling capabilities.

The laser cell delivers travel speeds of over 10m per minute, with a six-axis gantry and two-axis manipulator table capable of handling workpieces up to 15 tonnes. The system includes a high-tech Trumpf 16kW solid state disk laser, which minimises heat distortion and thermal stress to achieve high-quality welds for stainless steel, aluminium, titanium and alloy products. The system delivers high-quality welding joins, from around 15mm, over lengths of several metres.

The Cyan Tec laser cell at the Nuclear AMRC is now driving forward advanced welding applications in industries including nuclear, marine and aerospace. Join us on 2 October 2018 either the morning or afternoon session to discover its capabilities for yourself.

Open day schedule
Open day participants will learn about the latest advanced welding techniques, and explore cutting-edge research which is helping UK manufacturers win work at home and worldwide.

The day has been divided into two half-day sessions to meet the needs of busy industry visitors. You will tour the Nuclear AMRC research facility, and explore the most powerful disk laser system in the UK.

You will have the opportunity to meet Cyan Tec engineers, who design and develop cutting-edge laser systems, as well as Nuclear AMRC engineers using this technology to drive forward the state of the art in laser welding.

The open day will include presentations from the Nuclear AMRC, Cyan Tec and Trumpf teams, who will also be available to offer advanced welding and cutting advice to manufacturers and nuclear decommissioning representatives.

This event is designed for manufacturers who are considering incorporating advanced laser solutions into production lines, as well as nuclear decommissioning organisations who could benefit from the latest advances in laser technology. Please register your interest for either the morning or afternoon session.
