Plainview, N.Y., December 7, 2016 – Veeco Instruments Inc. (Nasdaq: VECO) announced today that RhySearch will receive its first Veeco SPECTOR® Ion Beam Sputtering (IBS) system coupled with the Veeco Quest™ Optical Monitor System (OMS) later this month.  RhySearch, based in Switzerland, will use Veeco’s technology to deposit optical thin films for advanced laser mirrors and anti-reflective coating applications.

“We see tremendous opportunity to advance next generation optical applications from research to high volume production and we need an industry-proven platform to accomplish that,” said Dr. Richard Quaderer, Managing Director, RhySearch.  “Veeco’s SPECTOR system will enable us to achieve optical coatings of the highest quality and the Quest OMS ensures we are maximizing our investment with precise control of the thin film deposition process.”

According to customers, the SPECTOR platform generates the highest quality optical thin films with improved levels of productivity and throughput. Unlike evaporative coatings, ion beam sputtered thin films are deposited at high energies, giving exceptional thickness control and low defect densities for laser coating applications. Veeco’s Quest OMS significantly enhances the SPECTOR platform capability by coupling cutting edge broad band monitoring control with the inherent stability of ion beam deposited films.

“We are excited to deliver our SPECTOR system and Quest technology to RhySearch, an influential leader in optical research and innovation,” said Adrian Devasahayam, Ph.D., Vice President of Veeco Optical Products and Marketing.  “Veeco’s process solutions have been recognized by leading manufacturers around the world as enabling the most demanding and advanced optical coating applications and we look forward to extending our reach into the hi-tech European market.”
