Avoid Artifacts in Camera Images – Suitable Band-pass Filters for 3D Triangulation!

Date Announced: 29 Oct 2010

In industrial image processing band-pass filters are commonly used to improve camera signals. To avoid artifacts, the wavelength of the filter is selected to correspond to the wavelength of the illumination source. The aim is to only allow that portion of light into the camera that is necessary to carry out the measurement. The surrounding light is automatically blocked with the help of band-pass filters.
By combining band-pass filters with our new FLEXPOINT® MV series, a perfect illumination can be achieved. The central wavelength of the line laser can be filtered out with a transmission of > 90%. Through the use of a single substrate and a hard coating, foggy images can be reliably avoided.
MV filters are available for light sources such as LEDs or lasers with central wavelengths (CWLs) from 395 nm to 785 nm.

Installation into the System
Filters are either available as unmounted models and can be placed between the camera and the objective (typ. 24.4 mm in diameter), or they can be placed in front of the objective with the help of a camera ring nut. For the latter, mounts are available from M22.5 to M105.
