Plainview, N.Y., June 17, 2015 – Veeco Instruments Inc. (Nasdaq: VECO) announced today that S1 Optics GmbH, located in Nürtingen, Germany, has ordered a Veeco SPECTOR®-HT Ion Beam Deposition (IBD) System with the Quest™ Optical Monitor System (OMS) upgrade to produce laser mirrors, optical filters, beam splitters and anti-reflective coatings for its optical coating process.

“The manufacturing of high-performance optical coatings requires a very advanced coating technology in combination with the type of in-depth process know-how that only a company like Veeco can provide,” said Mr. Rolf Singer, President, S1 Optics. “The SPECTOR-HT with Quest guarantees process stability and reproducibility and will help us accelerate our aggressive expansion plans.”

The SPECTOR platform, winner of the 2013 R&D 100 Award, generates the highest quality optical thin films with improved levels of productivity and throughput. The Quest Optical Monitoring System provides up to ten times improvement in layer thickness accuracy compared to previous generation products for precise manufacturing control.

“This is an exciting time to be part of the S1 Optics expansion plans as they diversify their product portfolio and grow their business,” said James Northup, Veeco’s Senior Vice President and General Manager. “The SPECTOR-HT, coupled with Veeco’s Quest Optical Monitoring System, is a flexible platform that delivers industry leading deposition rates, high throughput and exceptional repeatability resulting in unprecedented levels of productivity for optical thin film manufacturers.”
