Optoscribe upgrades its photonic lantern to include the latest OFS Few Mode Fiber

Date Announced: 20 May 2015

20th May 2015, ScotlandOptoscribe, a leading supplier of 3D Waveguide technology for optical telecommunications, is pleased announce the launch of a significant upgrade to its 3D MMux Photonic Lantern (PL) technology. The newly upgraded product has been designed and tailored to high performance low-DGD OFS fiber technology, without requiring any external optics. The product was developed as part of the EC-Funded INSPACE project that focuses on the development of complete spatial-spectral flexible optical networking solutions.

3D MMux PL is now provided fully packaged including 2 or 4 mode group graded index fibers. The device has a fully packaged insertion loss of < 2.5 dB and low polarisation dependant loss.

The 3D MMux PL can also be easily adapted to suit a particular geometry, with cores placed at arbitrary positions on demand for custom devices.

According to Nick Psaila, CEO of Optoscribe, “Upgrading the 3D MMux Photonic Lantern was the next most logical step in our development programme. Meeting the needs of customers today and tomorrow enables Optoscribe to stay ahead in an increasingly competitive market.”

About Optoscribe – http://www.optoscribe.com

The hurdles often associated with the adoption of new technology are overcome by using our unique waveguide technology. We provide innovative products that are set to revolutionise the optical telecommunications network and help shape the future.

Our accurate 3D embedded waveguides allow the fabrication of devices that are impossible to produce using solely planar technologies, opening new possibilities and integration scenarios.

We use proven and tested manufacturing processes to enable simple volume scalability and ensure that our products are designed to meet the needs of the telecommunications markets.

Our 3D Optofan Series, 3D MMux Photonic Lantern and Fiber Coupled Interconnex (FCX) product solutions combine multiple components into a single platform to enable high throughput, low insertion loss and a broad flat spectral response over telecoms bands. This leads to the transmission of high data rates, decreased footprint and reduced assembly costs, for both short and long haul communications.

Optoscribe was founded in 2010 and has become a recognised supplier of trusted, high performance 3D waveguide based solutions.

Optoscribe is located in Livingston, between the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow.
