Optical Fibre Coatings

Date Announced: 09 Dec 2014

LASER COMPONENTS has been the leading manufacturer of coated fibres for many years.  Our in-house coating department and fibre optical production are both under the same roof, with excellent manufacturing conditions which means we can offer a quick and efficient response to our customer’s individual needs.

Various fibre types, mainly large core fibres, are coated with high damage thresholds using physical vapor deposition (PVD).  This minimises back reflections, in particular when transmitting high power levels.  Reflection values between 0.2% and 0.5% can be achieved depending upon the type of coating.

We can coat both patchcords with standardised connector solutions and custom ferrules.  Bare fibre tips without a connector are also available.

The most common AR coatings are:

  • single AR: coating for a single wavelength (e.g. 808nm)
  • dual AR: coating for two wavelengths (e.g. 808nm and 980nm)
  • broadband AR: coating for a wide wavelength range (e.g. 460nm - 700nm)
