Focus on Vision UK

Date Announced: 03 Oct 2014

PHOTONEX is the UK’s largest showcase event dedicated to light technologies and it incorporates Vision UK. Highlights for the 2014 exhibition include industrial vision, machine vision, scientific imaging and new this timeis an entire conference on hyperspectral imaging.

The year’s event will be held again at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena, on the 15th& 16th October. It brings together manufacturers and distributors of vision and imaging solutions and associated laser and sensor technologies along with a conference covering a wide variety of subjects.

Vision UK is for vision/imaging/laser technology for research, science, industry and factory automation.

Solve your industrial vision problems

Theorganisers make the point this year that Vision UK is a place to solve problems, learn how to utilise vision in your factory - amongst the exhibitors there is someone to answer any vision, sensing, remote sensing or light based technology question relating to your process or your production line.

Many technologies that were introduced at last year’s show are now routinely being used for automating processes in factories:

USB3 interface technology, which improves speed and robustness of a vision system, is now routinely used. With the advantage of easy set-up, being in the most part ‘plug-and-play’, USB3 has most importantly in the past 12 months brought down the cost of vision systems. Many exhibitors have plentiful experience of 3D imagingand additionally this year colour cameraswill feature greatly at the show. Colour vision is now able to sort more complex coloured items, no longer is it a technology for simple colour sorting of the Lego brick type product but it is now being used for more complex products where colours vary greatly - organic foods for example. Additionally on the packaging linecameras are being used to ensure the right label is used for the right productbyexamination of the colour printing on labels.

Adding fresh interest to the Photonex and Vision UK event this year is the co-location of the HSI 2014 Conference.

Hyperspectral imaging is growing in use, it is best known for applications in remote sensing, as an aerial sensing technique to detect and classify objects on the ground. Now hyperspectral imaging is being used in research and industry to determine viewed objects’ temperatures, chemical composition, moisture, fat and sugar content. On the food production line it provides high resolution and a high-speed solution for imaging applications from moisture monitoring to food analysis and for sorting applications. Miniaturization and increasing spectral range are driving the latest technology changes and growing use is bringing down the price of cameras.

What technique will be suitable for your application? It is at Vision UK that you will be able to discover the difference in the various techniques and the companies that supply these systems.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
A vast amount of communications and business is done by email these days but people place great value on exhibitions and the opportunity to meet and have productive and dynamic face-to-face conversations.

Comment:

Ian Alderton of Alrad Imaging, a specialist UK supplier of vision technologies comments, “Meeting people at an exhibition enables me to put a face to the people I may have exchanged emails with or spoken to on the phone”, he adds,“importantly in an only slightly longer conversation than we might have had on the phone I am able to obtain a better understanding of an application which helps me to provide a more appropriate and complete solution for the customer”.

Discover the difference: On the internet one product can seem just like another. But it is getting down to the in-depth detail with a specialist which will enable you to make a better informed purchasing decision and establish if a product of a bespoke nature, but not able to be listed on the Internet, may satisfy your need best.

Listen to what people have to say about the event – you will soon be convinced a visit to Coventry in October will be thoroughly worthwhile!

Learn how to adopt industrial vision solutions for your process – to increase reliability and product quality at UKIVA master classes.

The UKIVA will be building on itstraditional educational seminar program on imaging at Vision UK@Photonexby offering a program of vision technologies and applications master classes. These will cover some of the latest imaging techniques, including 3D imaging, with the emphasis on solving practical imaging problems.

UKIVA Chairman, Mark Williamson, said: “We were very pleased with the significant increase in attendance at ourseminars at last year’s Vision UK showcase, so we have decided to place an even greater emphasis on practical applications by inviting contributions from vision systems integrators, who get intimately involved in creating vision solutions, as well as end users themselves.”

Mini show preview.

Here are just some of the products that will be on show which give a snapshot of the technologies presented at the event.

On Stemmer Imaging’s stand will be an extensive range of camera technology.

A wide range of camera technologies covering a host of industrial and scientific imaging applications will be shown by Stemmer Imaging at Vision UK. Cameras with the latest Sony CMOS sensors with high light sensitivity and dynamic range can be seen alongside high resolution high speed cameras, Short Wave IR cameras and a dual CCD camera for simultaneous imaging of visible and NIR light.

Multipix Imaging will show the successful Basler ace USB3 cameras which have dropped in price!!

It has now been more than a year since Basler launched its ace USB 3.0 cameras and thanks to the tremendous success of the line, including thousands of units sold, Basler is cutting prices for models ranging from VGA to 5 MP resolution. The cameras now start at £199.

Alrad Imaging will show Opto GmbH bi-telecentric lenses.

Bi-telecentric lenses from Opto are fully telecentric on both object and image side with zero perspective distortion. The new QuadraMount versions of these lenses feature a universal square profile enabling simple integration, minimal alignment setup, reliable fastening and wide compatibility to the standard aluminum profiles used in machine vision systems.
