Date Announced: 09 Sep 2014
Stockport, UK: Laser Quantum is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of Venteon Laser Technologies GmbH, a world leading manufacturer of few-cycle, ultra-short pulse lasers.
Laser Quantum, founded in 1994 as a manufacturer of powerful and robust continuous wave lasers, recently diversified into the femtosecond laser arena with the purchase of Gigaoptics GmbH in 2011. The addition of Venteon technology to the existing range of CW and GHz lasers allows Laser Quantum to further develop this highly demanding area of photonics and strengthen its position in the ultrafast market.
In making the announcement, CEO of Laser Quantum, Dr Lawrie Gloster, said “The combination of Venteon technology, our global reach and 20 years of expertise in laser manufacturing will drive accelerated scientific advancements, and lead to exciting lasers and instrumentation with ever-greater capability. Additionally, the vertical integration across our product range will lead to better value and support for our customers. Venteon has made its name with unrivalled innovation and it is tremendously exciting to be working closely with such a great team of people.”
Venteon have used Laser Quantum pump lasers in the design and manufacture of their products for many years. The interdependent nature of the relationship has led to the publication of a number of joint whitepapers on subjects such as the generation of sub-5fs pulses, the shortest commercially available, and Carrier Envelope Phase (CEP) stabilisation using a direct pump modulation method patented by Laser Quantum.
Venteon CEO, Dr Thomas Binhammer, commented “Laser Quantum lasers have been an integral part of the Venteon product range for many years and being part of Laser Quantum gives us the opportunity to bring better products and services to a wider market”.
This acquisition will offer customers around the world better access to this ground-breaking technology and the application support needed to make the best use of it through the Laser Quantum global network of distribution partners.
Venteon Laser Technologies GmbH will remain in its current headquarters in Hannover, undertaking increased R&D and manufacture, with Laser Quantum undertaking responsibility for sales, marketing and after-sales support. The new facility will add a greater manufacturing footprint for Laser Quantum that already has sites in Konstanz, Germany, Stockport, UK and San Jose, USA.
