Norman Edmund Inspiration Award - submissions open

Date Announced: 20 May 2014

Competition now open to all finalists in Edmund Optics' 2014 Education Award program.

May 20, 2014, Barrington, NJ - Edmund OpticsĀ®, the premier provider of optical components, once again recognizes and honors its founder, Norman Edmund, by selecting one applicant from the 2014 Education Award finalists and presenting them with the respected Norman Edmund Inspiration Award.

The award, which was created in 2012 after the passing of Mr. Edmund, celebrates the contributions he made to advance the science of optics by awarding $5,000 in EO product donations. For the first time since the award's inception, all 45 2014 Educational Award finalists will be considered for this honor and have an opportunity of receiving this recognition.

"We are very excited to open up this opportunity to all the finalists of the 2014 Education Award program. There are so many research projects worthy of this recognition," said Kirsten Bjork-Jones, Director of Global Marketing Communications. "This award has grown beyond inspiring the next generation's interest in optics and science to include research programs which work to make the world a better place."

The Norman Edmund Inspiration Award will be given to the optics program that best embodies the legacy of Norman Edmund, and will be selected at the sole discretion of the Edmund Optics Board of Directors Committee. The 45 finalists of the 2014 Education Award Grant will be asked for additional information by the Committee - how their project embodies Norman Edmund's goals and inspires others to do similar types of research.

Mr. Edmund, the creator and entrepreneurial spirit behind Edmund Scientific which later evolved into Edmund Optics, is credited with inspiring many generations of young talent to become interested in science and engineering through his thought-provoking catalog of optics, scientific experiments, and learning tools. He is remembered by all for his generosity, love of science, and curious mind. Applications for the 2014 Educational Award are due by June 30th and can be submitted online at www.edmundoptics.com/award.

The 45 finalists will be notified on September 17th and the Gold, Silver, and Bronze award recipients will be announced on October 15th. The recipient of the Norman Edmund Inspiration Award will subsequently be announced on November 5th.
