Date Announced: 13 Feb 2014
Tucson, AZ -- Lasertel Inc., announced it has been awarded a contract for approximately $5 million by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) to develop and deliver laser diode pump sources. The deal is in support of a state-of-the-art laser system for the European Union’s Extreme Light Infrastructure Beamlines facility currently under construction in the Czech Republic.
Lasertel Inc., a leading developer of high powered semiconductor laser pump modules, was selected through an international competitive bid process to supply the megawatt-class pump modules that combine advanced semiconductor laser technology with novel micro-optics in a reliable, integrated platform. The pump modules will be developed and delivered to LLNL over a 12-month period for integration into the LLNL High Repetition-Rate Advanced Petawatt Laser System (HAPLS) for the ELI Beamlines facility. HAPLS is being designed to reach
peak powers greater than one petawatt (1015 Watts) at a repetition rate of 10 Hz. This will mark a step-change in the state-of-the-art for high power laser systems, allowing international scientific research in areas as diverse as
medical imaging, particle acceleration, biophysics and chemistry, homeland security and quantum physics.
"Lasertel is proud to support LLNL’s groundbreaking laser program," said Robert Walker, Director of Sales and Marketing. "Our high-performance laser diodes will enable the HAPLS project to achieve its performance goals in a cost-effective manner while maintaining the flexibility to be used for other high-energy platforms."
