Dr. Michael Evans to Lead Sensors and Communications Efforts for SA Photonics

Ex-Elbit director's priority is to transition expertise to military and commercial markets.

LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SA Photonics announced today that Dr. Michael Evans, a former Senior Director at Elbit Systems of America, will join SA Photonics as Vice President of Sensors and Communications, effective immediately. Dr. Evans will lead SA Photonics’ efforts to transition its innovative photonics solutions to military and commercial markets.

“Mike has worked for more than 30 years in technology development, risk management and product transition for companies such as AT&T Bell Labs, Vicor, Corning, BAE Systems, and Elbit Systems of America, where he developed commercial and military hardware systems for the telecommunications, defense, and space sectors worth over $7 billion. His vast experience and valuable customer relationships will enable SA Photonics to continue its rapid growth and innovation,” said Jim Coward, CEO of SA Photonics.

Most recently Dr. Evans served as the International Product Line Director for Elbit Systems of America, Sensor and ElectroOptics division, where he directed the Night Targeting System programs for the AH-1W attack helicopter currently deployed in Afghanistan. He was also the International Program Director for Turrets and Systems in Europe and Asia.

Before joining Elbit Systems of America, Dr. Evans held positions as Chief Engineer and Program Engineering Manager for BAE Systems, where he primarily worked on advanced missile defense and space systems, including the Advanced Strap-Down Seeker. He holds a Doctorate in Materials Science & Technology from Columbia University.
