Key U.S. Patent Issued to Redfern Integrated Optics for planar Bragg grating fabrication technology

Santa Clara, Calif. – January 24th, 2013 – Redfern Integrated Optics (RIO), a global leader in single frequency narrow linewidth lasers and laser systems, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued patent number US 8,358,889 for its planar Bragg gratings fabrications technology.

This patent covers the method and fabrication processes of waveguide Bragg gratings and grating arrays on planar lightwave circuits (PLC). The invention enables a cost effective manufacturing of polarization maintaining high performance Bragg gratings, utilizing wafer level high volume manufacturing processes and well established PLC and CMOS equipment and production lines.
Currently this invention enables RIO to manufacture low noise PLANEX™ lasers with a unique combination of premium performance and high reliability, manufacturability and cost effectiveness.

Future applications for the RIO’s planar Bragg grating technology may include various active and passive components for Telco and optical sensing, including bio-sensing, chemical, Lab-on-a-chip and others.
