New UV Optical Filters – High Transmission Shortpass

Date Announced: 12 Nov 2012

Omega Optical upgrades its line of UV optical filters. The new high transmission UV shortpass filter offers > 80% transmission from 260 – 400 nm with OD5 from 410 – 580 nm. It excels in applications such as water purification, environmental control, UV curing, or any other application where high level of performance is required.

We use the dual magnetron reactive sputtering coating tool to produce these filters. The coating tool allows us to deposit the UV oxide coating material, ZrO2, which transmits in the UV down to 250nm and has excellent refractive index properties in the visible range. The material’s transmitting ability combined with our new equipment translates into the fact that we are now able to provide filters in the UV, as blue as 250nm, with higher transmissions, steeper edges, and deeper blocking than ever before. Moreover, since ZrO2 maintains an index of refraction close to 2.2 throughout the visible range, these UV filters can be blocked to 700nm without the use of metals.

For extended blocking, we can incorporate our UV gain flattening filter, which may extend the blocking to the FIR while still providing transmission as high as 40%.
