Edmund Optics' CEO, Robert Edmund, Named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year® 2012 Finalist in Greater Philadelphia

Son of founder has overseen significant expansion of the optics firm in recent years.

May 14, 2012, Barrington, NJ - Edmund Optics® (EO), the premier provider of optical components, today announced that Robert Edmund, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors, was named a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year® 2012 program in the Greater Philadelphia region. The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

Robert Edmund, son of founder Norman Edmund, is well known for his expertise in business strategy, optical manufacturing and product development, as well as global catalog marketing. Under Robert's leadership, the company has expanded to over 700 employees worldwide servicing over 200,000 global customers through 12 regional offices.

Robert is a graduate of Georgetown University's School of Business and has served on several boards including University of Arizona's Stewarts Labs, University of Arizona's Optical Sciences, and the Direct Marketing Association. In 2011, Robert was named a Senior Member of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE).

Now in its 26th year, the Entrepreneur of The Year Program has expanded to recognize business leaders in more than 140 cities in more than 50 countries throughout the world. Regional award winners are eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of The Year Program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of The Year Overall Award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California, on November 17, 2012. The awards are the culminating event of the Ernst & Young Strategic Growth Forum, the nation's most prestigious gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies.

Awards for the Greater Philadelphia winners will be presented at a special gala on June 21 at the Terrace Ballroom of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia.
