Bernd Schnakenberg appointed Qioptiq Executive Vice President and Managing Director at Qioptiq Photonics in Germany

Photonics firm hires seasoned healthcare executive to head up German operation.

Luxembourg, 2 May 2012 – Today, Bernd Schnakenberg (49) starts his new position as Managing Director of Qioptiq Photonics GmbH & Co. KG, Germany. At the same time he has been appointed Qioptiq Executive Vice President (Qioptiq Photonics Germany) and a member of the Executive Committee.

Qioptiq designs and manufactures photonic products and solutions that serve a wide range of markets and applications in the areas of medical and life sciences, industrial manufacturing, defense and aerospace, and research and development.

Bernd Schnakenberg is an internationally experienced manager. He has held various management positions, mainly in the field of medical technology – one of Qioptiq’s core commercial businesses.

Before joining Qioptiq, he was General Manager Europe Region at Carestream Health, an international company providing medical and dental imaging systems and information technology solutions. In this position, he was responsible for the sales and service activities for digital medical imaging and hospital IT-solutions across assigned regions in Europe.

Before this he was the Senior Vice President and global head of the Near Patient Testing business unit at Roche Diagnostics based in Switzerland. While in that position he was also a member of the Senior Management Team of Roche Professional Diagnostics.

From 2000 to 2008 he was Vice President Global Marketing at Siemens Medical Solutions in Erlangen responsible for the Computed Tomography Division and then VP Sales for the Ultrasound Division in Europe, MidEast/Africa. Until 2000, Bernd Schnakenberg worked with Philips Medical Systems in Hamburg where his last position was the Vice President Marketing and Portfolio Management for Radiography Systems.

Bernd Schnakenberg holds a degree (Graduate Engineer) in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg.

Qioptiq Photonics GmbH & Co. KG employs around 700 people at the locations in Göttingen, Feldkirchen/Munich and Regen.
