First Commercial Integrated Supercontinuum Powered Spectrofluorometers

Date Announced: 09 Mar 2012

Birkerød, Denmark and Edison, NJ, March 9, 2012 The HORIBA Scientific division of HORIBA Instruments Incorporated (HORIBA), global leader in fluorescence spectroscopy systems, has incorporated into its line of spectrofluorometers the SuperK EXTREME line of white-light lasers from NKT Photonics A/S (NKT), the pioneer of supercontinuum lasers. Under the mutually exclusive agreement, HORIBA has fully integrated NKT’s SuperK EXTREME lasers into its software and hardware, and will globally sell the combined product as a fully supported system. This solution represents the first time the high intensity and broad wavelength range of a supercontinuum laser have been seamlessly integrated into a commercial spectrofluorometer.

Jakob Skov (CEO of NKT Photonics) adds: “The SuperK EXTREME offers industry leading quality and reliability and, therefore, it was important for us to find an industrial partner with the same focus on quality. As the leading company in fluorescence spectroscopy, HORIBA is the ideal partner for us and with the integration we have realized a system offering the user unmatched performance and reliability.” Steve Slutter (President of HORIBA Scientific USA) also reinforces: “The combined systems give users unprecedented capabilities such as high power in the NIR and gap-free wavelength tunability for TCSPC measurements. We are very pleased to be working with NKT Photonics. We were looking for the right partner to help us extend the performance of our class leading products. As the pioneers of this technology and the company with the broadest offerings, NKT was a perfect choice. We were especially impressed with their focus on innovation and customer satisfaction, key HORIBA values as well.”

The companies plan to exhibit a sample of the integrated system at the Pittsburgh Conference in Orlando Florida later this month.
