Armstrong Optical to represent Ophir Optics group in UK and Ireland

Date Announced: 08 Feb 2012

UK firm to sell Newport subsidiary's high-performance thermal and optical imaging components.

Armstrong Optical Ltd. has announced that, with immediate effect, they will represent the Infrared Optics Group of Ophir Optronics Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Newport Inc., for the sales of their world-renown thermal imaging lens systems and optical imaging components, covering the UK and Ireland.

With an influential market share in the defence, security and commercial thermal imaging sectors, the Infrared Optics Group of Ophir Optronics manufactures and supplies high performance optical lens assemblies for MWIR & LWIR, cooled & uncooled thermal imaging cameras, and high precision infrared optical components and build-to-print (BTP) elements and sub-assemblies.

"In the past we have operated through "catalogue houses" or tried to address the UK market ourselves either from Jerusalem or Heerbrug in Switzerland," said Gaby Mühle, Marketing & Sales Manager, Ophir Optics Europe. "Penetration into the UK defence market is considered to be an important objective for Ophir Optronics, and with their extensive knowledge of this business area we consider Armstrong Optical to be the ideal partner to our sales team."

Being a major part of their ISO 9001:2008 certified manufacturing facilities, component production processes at Ophir Optronics utilise all of the common IR materials for fabrication such as Germanium, Silicon, Zinc Selenide, Zinc Sulphide (IR and multispectral), Calcium Fluoride and the Chalcogenide materials such as AMTIR. In addition to fabricating a complete range of optical elements, including both refractive and reflective components, Ophir specialises in the design, development and manufacture of complex lens assemblies for both the MWIR & LWIR such as one, two and three field of view configurations as well as continuous zoom lens systems.

Roni Shahar, Sales & Marketing Manager IR Optics, Europe for Ophir Optronics, said: "I believe that joining Armstrong Optical will not only provide Ophir Optronics with increased penetration into the UK but will open up new opportunities to increase revenues from this extensive defence and security market. Armstrong Optical's established sales and distribution channels will immediately increase the exposure of our products, and collaboration with Armstrong Optical's customer base can only help in the development of a wide range of next generation thermal imaging solutions."

Armstrong Optical Sales Director for Optical Systems, Dr Rob Roach, said "It is a very proud day for us to be able to add such a prestigious company as Ophir to our portfolio of business partners. Simply by contacting Armstrong Optical the infrared/electro-optical markets in the UK and Ireland will now be able to benefit from the products and services that are only available from a world-class supplier such as Ophir Optronics".
