Tornado Medical Systems Launches New HyperFlux Spectrometer Line

Date Announced: 17 Jan 2012

Tornado Medical Systems (Tornado), developer of spectroscopic solutions for sample identification, detection, diagnosis and imaging announced the launch of its much anticipated HyperFlux line of spectrometers. This ground-breaking technology overcomes the expensive trade-off between light throughput and spectral resolution.

Traditional spectrometers lose a substantial amount of throughput as the light passes through the physical slit. The HyperFlux replaces the slit completely with Tornado’s proprietary HTVS (High Throughput Virtual Slit) technology; preserving very high resolution with virtually no throughput loss to achieve market-leading spectroscopy results. In its first implementation for Raman spectroscopy, the HyperFlux achieved a resolution of 0.2 nm with an average of 10-20x increase in light throughput compared to systems with similar resolution. The HyperFlux and the HTVS technology can be customized to enhance the performance of other spectrometer designs. Tornado’s current HyperFlux line-up consists of three available models: 532nm, 785nm and 830nm, with more coming in the first half of 2012.

"We’re very excited about the launch of the HyperFlux as it overcomes the most common and burdening spectroscopy hurdle- low inbound photon rates,” said Arsen Hajian, Tornado’s Chief Technology Officer. “The HyperFlux with HTVS technology has demonstrated a much higher degree of photon penetration, leading to previously unattained spectral resolutions."

Dr. Art Rosenthal, Board Director of Tornado and former CSO of Boston Scientific states, “In addition to its tremendous value for Tornado’s OEM partners, the HTVS will finally unlock the huge potential for Raman in non-invasive monitoring applications and sample prep free clinical diagnostics.”

The HyperFlux will be on display between January 24 and 26 at the SPIE Photonics West 2012 event in San Francisco, CA. Interested parties are encouraged to visit booth #5206 in North Hall D of the Moscone Center.
