Date Announced: 02 Jan 2012
Executive was previously managing director of LASAG AG Thun, Switzerland.
Dr. Dietmar Wagner will head the Laser Processing Systems business unit of the Lasers & Material Processing division from January 2012. At the same time, he will be the new general manager of JENOPTIK Automatisierungstechnik GmbH - one of the two companies within the business unit he is responsible for.
Dr. Dietmar Wagner has extensive knowledge and more than 25 years of experience in the fields of laser technology and material processing. He has held various executive positions, the last one being that of the managing director of LASAG AG Thun, Switzerland.
The laser processing systems business unit of Jenoptik’s Lasers & Material Processing division specializes in automated and process-optimized machines and systems for laser-based material processing. Among others, the customers include companies from the automotive industry and its components suppliers.
More than 170 laser machines of the type JENOPTIK-VOTANTM A for the production of integrated airbag solutions have already been delivered all over the world. Applying a patented process, invisible predetermined breaking points are cut into instrument panels made of various materials in a controlled and safe way.
Moreover, this Jenoptik business unit participates in other markets such as the photovoltaics market as well, offering innovative solutions in the field of laser-based material processing. In the autumn of 2011, the latest JENOPTIK-VOTANTM Solas Multi system generation for efficient processing of thin-film solar cells in the photovoltaics industry was introduced at the PVSEC.
The advantage of this system lies in its versatility. All processes necessary for the development/further development of the solar modules can be realized using one and the same machine. That machine can also be converted into a full-fledged production machine integrated in the real production process later on.
Owing to the successful technology transfer from the field of thin-film solar cell processing to the processing of high-tech glass for energy-saving so-called smart windows, Jenoptik has managed toopen up yet another growth segment for the Lasers & Material Processing division. The first incoming orders were announced in November 2011.
