Calmar Laser's Cazadero now Offers Adjustable Pulse Energies and Repetition Rates to Meet Demanding Application Needs

Date Announced: 22 Nov 2011

Ultrafast laser amplifier is aimed at surgical and micromachining applications.

Sunnyvale, CA, Nov. 22, 2011--- Calmar Laser's Cazadero femtosecond fiber laser chirped pulse amplifier (FLCPA) system now uniquely provides end users with greater flexibility - full control of pulse repetition rates and the ability to select pulse energies according to their application requirements. To cover the wide gamut from precision surgical procedures to micromachining processes, pulses can also be conveniently delivered in customizable "burst" mode sequences or even single shot.

Calmar Laser, a leading developer and manufacturer of ultrafast fiber lasers, first introduced the Cazadero in 2005, primarily for precision materials processing applications in medicine and microelectronics manufacturing. The Cazadero now provides up to 20 µJ pulse energies and offers repetition rates up to MHz with a typical pulse width of less than 500 fs. It provides exceptional pulse-to-pulse stability, a low-pedestal pulse shape, and an output beam with roundness better than 80% and M2 < 1.2. The laser is completely air-cooled and designed for stable, maintenance-free operation in demanding OEM applications.

In both precision surgical and micromachining ultrafast laser applications, it is critical to tailor pulse energies for optimal material removal while ensuring repetition rates support acceptable throughput. The ability for the end user to fully control the timing of the pulses is crucial for the safety, quality, reproducibility, and reliability of these processes. Calmar Laser's Cazadero provides the customer access to these features both electronically and manually with a simple user friendly interface. Parameters are easily selected via a hex switch on the laser controller's front panel or a computer interface on the back panel. All the other specifications, such as the excellent beam profile or clean pulse shape, remain unchanged by these integrated features.

Dr. Tony Lin, President and CEO, summarized, "Calmar Laser's Cazadero product line has been well received by industrial and research customers alike. The freedom to access selectable pulse energy and switchable repetition rates now enables our customers to investigate a wider range of applications, facilitate more systematic laser parameter studies, and ultimately develop better process control in real world applications".
