IRVINE, CA (October 17, 2011) - BIOLASE Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:BLTI), the World's leading dental laser manufacturer and distributor, today announced that Director of Operations Richard Whipp has been promoted to the newly created position of Vice President of Operations, effective immediately. He will continue to report to Chairman and CEO Federico Pignatelli and Chief Financial Officer Fred Furry.
Pignatelli said, "Since joining the Company in July 2011, Rick has made tremendous contributions. He has greatly contributed to manufacturing efficiencies, eliminated supply chain dislocations for BIOLASE's laser systems and established an infrastructure for the Company's future manufacturing expansion. Rick has also been effective in working closely with both the R&D and engineering departments to optimize all of our product platforms. We see Rick as a valuable element in the future success of the Company and a positive contributor to BIOLASE's ongoing expansion and growth."
Whipp, 59, has over 30 years of experience in manufacturing and operations. Prior to joining BIOLASE in July 2011, Whipp spent 13 years in operations at Culver City, CA-based Discus Dental, a dental services and software division of Philips Electronics. Whipp was Senior Director of Operations at Discus Dental and was responsible for its manufacturing and distribution operations, with direct experience in diode laser supply chain management and lean manufacturing.
Prior to working at Discus Dental, Whipp worked from 1992-1998 at Torrance, CA-based Leica Geosystems, a manufacturer of high-tech marine navigation and survey GPS equipment. As the Director of Operations, he was responsible for all plant operations and managed all manufacturing, planning, purchasing, service, warehouse and logistics operations.
Whipp began his career in 1978 as a senior program planner and gradually worked his way into increasingly more responsible manufacturing management positions at such companies as Monrovia, CA- based Conrac Industries Inc. and Costa Mesa, CA-based Gulton Industries Inc.
