Zeiss Ventures leads €2.2 M investment in SeeTrue Technologies...

...and Mitsubishi Electric and Sony Semiconductor form JV to develop new AI vision sensors.

The investment will accelerate the commercialization of SeeTrue’s ultra-low-power eye-sensing architecture, which is designed to address important challenges in next-generation interfaces for smart optical systems and eyewear.

SeeTrue’s proprietary architecture combines miniaturized sensing hardware with optimized embedded processing to enable scalable eye-sensing capabilities with low power consumption and a small hardware footprint.

The technology supports gaze-based interaction and attention-aware computing for applications across healthcare-related, industrial, and smart eyewear contexts.

‘Differentiated approach’

“SeeTrue has developed a differentiated approach to eye tracking. We believe the team is well positioned to address important challenges across vision-based applications and enable more efficient ways of human-machine interaction,” commented Prof. Dr. Boris Hofmann, Head of Zeiss Ventures.

The investment round further includes participation from Superhero Capital and North Karelia Growth Fund (NKGF), managed by Redstone Nordics, among other investors. With this investment, Zeiss Ventures said that it is demonstrating its interest in supporting technologies that enable the next generation of smart optical systems and wearable devices.

Mitsubishi Electric and Sony Semiconductor form JV to build AI vision sensors

Mitsubishi Electric and Sony Semiconductor Solutions have announced an agreement on a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the automation and advancement of the manufacturing industry. The companies will establish a joint venture, Advanced Vision Solutions, set to begin operations in October 2026. The venture is based on a 60 percent Mitsubishi – 40 per cent Sony share arrangement.

The partners are planning to develop vision sensor solutions that enable AI-based analysis of visual data directly on image sensors. They state: “The solutions will precisely capture conditions and changes across a broad range of manufacturing sites that have traditionally been difficult to visualize, and connect them to decision-making and control, contributing to labor savings and unmanned operations.

“This partnership will enable the two companies to integrate Sony’s industry-leading image sensors and edge AI technologies with Mitsubishi Electric’s extensive expertise in FA control systems. The solutions will precisely capture conditions at manufacturing sites, product quality, equipment operations, and maintenance-related information.”

Through this initiative, the companies say they are aiming “to drive the deployment of physical AI in the FA domain and provide solutions that can be used without specialized expertise in optics or AI, across broad industries seeking labor savings, autonomous operations, quality improvement, and more advanced maintenance in production environments.”
