Aeva reports improved Q1 2025 results and announces collaborations

19 May 2025

The 4D lidar company cuts deals with sensor firms SICK and LMI Technologies, as well as Airbus.

Aeva, the Mountain View, CA-based lidar company developing the more advanced frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) version of the technology, has announced its first quarter 2025 results.

The quarter’s financial highlights included revenue of $3.4 million (compared with $2.1 million in Q1, 2024), and a non-GAAP operating loss of $25.9 million ($32.1 million in Q1 2024).

The company’s statement identified several other highlights from the latest quarter including: “record product revenue for the quarter and the introduction of the Aeva Eve 1D,” which is said to be the industry’s first FMCW high-precision laser displacement sensor for industrial automation.

“The Eve 1D offers greater precision, repeatability and stand-off flexibility in a smaller and lower cost solution than current laser triangulation solutions,” the company stated.

The firm added that it has also signed on its first strategic customers for the Eve 1D, including sensor companies SICK and LMI Technologies. Aeva has received initial orders for over 1,000 sensors with plans to ship later in 2025. The lidar firm has also been selected by Airbus UpNext to support the co-development of an airport guidance and safety system (see below).

“We believe Aeva is at an inflection point, as we progress further on major automotive programs and secure additional commercial wins with leading customers in new and large markets,” commented Soroush Salehian, CEO and co-founder. “This is enabled by Aeva’s core FMCW lidar-on-chip perception platform, and with a new strategic collaboration and investment from a Global Fortune 500 company’s technology subsidiary to jointly work on further accelerating the adoption of Aeva’s differentiated technology, we are in an even stronger position to execute on our mission to bring perception to broad and expanding end markets,” he added.

Airbus deal

Aeva has been selected by Airbus UpNext, a wholly-owned Airbus subsidiary created to explore innovative technologies, to supply its cutting-edge 4D lidar technology for the Optimate smart automation demonstrator. Aeva said its 4D lidar technology, which can simultaneously detect precise distance and velocity for each point in a scene, at long ranges of up to 500 meters, makes it suited for the complex and dynamic environments of airports.

Optimate is a project that aims to assist pilots and to support their decision-making. In this frame, several sensor technologies including multiple Aeva 4D lidar are tested on an Airbus A350-1000 flight test aircraft and on an electrical truck during hundreds of hours in taxi operation at Toulouse-Blagnac airport and a more complex international airport.

Aeva has also announced a strategic collaboration with the technology focused affiliate of an Global Fortune 500 company, to collaborate on bringing Aeva’s 4D lidar into new industrial and consumer markets. Aeva will also select this company as its Tier-2 manufacturing partner for the Top 10 passenger OEM program previously announced.

As part of the agreement, the unnamed company will invest up to $50 million including Aeva common stock, new joint product development revenue and capital investments to bring production capacity online for Aeva’s sensing products across automotive, industrial and consumer applications. The company will take an approximately 6% equity stake in Aeva.
