Trumpf opens €40 million extension at its Austrian site

12 Sep 2024

Company has invested in new production halls and Smart Factory in Pasching.

Trumpf Maschinen Austria has this month opened an extension to its Smart Factory at its Pasching, Austria, site.

The opening ceremony took place in the presence of the German owner family and representatives from business and politics. Trumpf has invested around €40 million in the expansion of the site over the past two years.

The company has built two new production halls with an area of 7,000 square meters and 850 square meters of office space. “With this major investment, the Trumpf Group is expressing its long-term commitment to Austria,” said Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller, CEO of Trumpf.

“Pasching is one of our most important locations outside Germany, and one to which we feel a special cultural affinity,” she said.

“Trumpf Maschinen Austria is one of Upper Austria’s flagship companies. In particular, the cooperation with the surrounding schools, educational centers and universities of applied sciences should be emphasized,” said Governor Thomas Stelzer.

“These are a driving force behind the innovative strength of Trumpf and the companies in Upper Austria.”

Automated production

Thilo Preß, Managing Director of Trumpf Maschinen Austria, said, “The heart of the site expansion is the Smart Factory, which is equipped with our own state-of-the-art machines.” The company can present innovations in sheet metal processing to its customers there. Trumpf also uses the Smart Factory to manufacture and process sheet metal parts itself.

The announcement stated that “the high level of vertical integration saves costs. Following the expansion, a new laser hybrid welding system welds large parts, such as machine frames, fully automatically directly at the plant”. The Pasching plant also supplies machine frames to other Trumpf.

As part of the plant expansion, Trumpf has built an energy center for CO2-neutral energy supply, which is equipped with a wood chip heating system and heat pumps. Furthermore, the existing photovoltaic system has been extended by 406 kilowatt peak (kWp).

For 33 years, Pasching has been the competence center for Trumpf’s bending technology activities. Around 800 employees develop and produce bending machines for sheet metal processing. Sales in the last fiscal year amounted to around €530 million.
