| NPL’s optical stabilization reference cavity was developed for the ESA and is designed to lock laser frequency for future high-precision space instruments. The cavity acts like a tuning fork and prevents a laser from drifting. Such lasers will serve at the heart of next generation optical clocks, improving on current microwave atomic clocks used for timing and navigation, as well as enabling ultra sensitive gravity detectors. |
