Quantum mechanical expansion of the exciton. Click for info.
Through quantum mechanical expansion of the exciton, the dipole (arrow) can create several copies of itself. In a larger quantum dot (QD), superradiance then leads to a faster recombination of the exciton and hence to more photons emitted per second. Illustration: Kovalenko Lab.
