| The Newton Aycliffe, UK, GaAs wafer fabrication facility sold by Coherent to the UK's Ministry of Defence was most recently being used to manufacture VCSELs for 3D sensing applications. The UK government sees ownership of the site, historically one of the largest GaAs facilities in Europe, as a way to safeguard a sovereign supply of critical technologies used in military platforms such as fighter jets.
