Robot-assisted surgery is already a well-established field, but the current generation of robots all rely on surgeons for control. The integration of optical techniques could change that, and move the technology towards full autonomy. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) was tipped by presenter Robert Huber as a way to do this, analogous to the way that lidar can control self-driving vehicles. Photo: AvateraMedical. |
