LASER 2023 announces details of World of Photonics Congress
14 Jun 2023
Program includes five scientific conferences and more than 3,600 presentations including Nobel laureate Donna Strickland.
After a wait of four years, the international scientific elite from the photonics industry once again has the opportunity to gather and exchange ideas live in Munich when the
LASER World of Photonics Congress takes place in the ICM – International Congress Center Messe München — from June 25 to 30, 2023.
This year, the most important congress for the industry in Europe will be flanked by three trade fairs taking place in parallel: LASER World of Photonics, World of Quantum and automatica.
Five conferences with a total of more than 3,600 scientific presentations and poster sessions make the World of Photonics Congress a superlative industry event. Highlights include: five scientific conferences featuring more than 3,600 presentations; networking events for the international scientific community; and Nobel prize winner Donna Strickland giving the plenary talk.
“The congress covers all aspects of photonics, and combines the latest research, innovative technologies and industrial applications in unique ways. Nobel prize winners, scientists and students will meet there to exchange knowledge and network,” said Exhibition Director Anke Odouli.
In the plenary talk for the World of Photonics Congress, Dr. Tammy Ma and Prof. Constantin Häfner will talk about a leading issue in the industry: the potential of laser-driven inertial confinement fusion (June 27, 2:00-3:30 p.m., room 1) .
New this year is an overarching diversity program that aims to raise awareness of diversity, equality and inclusion within the photonics community through workshops, discussion groups and networking events.
Conference program
Five separate conferences will take place under the umbrella of the World of Photonics Congress, covering the entire spectrum from basic research to application-oriented development. World-leading research institutes and companies from the field of photonics are behind the organization and the extensive lecture program.
Following are the details on the conferences and their respective plenary speakers:
- CLEO / Europe – EQEC 2023 is Europe’s largest conference for photonics and related fields of research. CLEO / Europe presents the latest developments in a broad spectrum of laser and photonics areas, while EQEC covers the basics of quantum optics. The program comprises presentations, tutorials, poster sessions and short courses. In the plenary talk, Nobel Prize winner Prof. Donna Strickland will talk about the topic “From Nonlinear Optics to High-Intensity Laser Physics” (June 26, 4:00-5:30 p.m., room 1). CLEO / Europe – EQEC 2023 is organized by the European Physical Society (EPS), OPTICA (formerly OSA) and the IEEE Photonics Society. - LiM – Lasers in Manufacturing concentrates primarily on the fields of macro-applications, micro-applications and additive manufacturing in its three sub-conferences, and is organized by the Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft Lasertechnik und Photonik (Scientific Society for Laser Technology and Photonics). The plenary talk with Valeria Tirelli and Dr. Maria Farsari will address the topics of additive manufacturing for sustainable hydraulic solutions and 3D micro-nanoprinting using light (June 26, 10:30-12:30 a.m., room 13b). - The trends and perspectives of Digital Optical Technologies are the focus of the conference of the same name, which is organized by SPIE Europe. These include innovative optics for augmented, mixed and virtual reality systems, as well as digital optics for picture generation and sensors. Dr. Sanjay Gangadhara, Senior Program Director for Optics at Ansys, will focus his plenary talk on the topic of “End-to-end simulation in propelling the new wave of optics and photonics innovation” (June 26, 9:00-10:00 a.m., room 21). - Another conference organized by SPIE Europe is Optical Metrology. This concentrates on the latest research in the fields of measurement systems, modeling, videometrics and inspection. In his plenary talk, Prof. Zeev Zalevsky from the Israeli Bar-Ilan University will present a photonic sensor that can be used for the simultaneous and continuous remote sensing of many biomedical parameters (June 28, 10:30-11:25 a.m., room 1). - The European Conferences on Biomedical Optics (ECBO) are concerned with optical and biophotonic technologies for diagnostics and therapeutics. The Plenary Talk from Prof. Melissa Skala, University of Wisconsin, and Prof. YongKeun Park, KAIST University, will cover the topics of “Fluorescence lifetime imaging of NAD(P)H and FAD to monitor immune cell metabolism and function” and “Holotomography and artificial intelligence: label-free 3D imaging, classification, and inference of live cells and organoids” (June 26, 2:00-3:30 p.m., room 5). The conference is organized by SPIE and Optica. For more information, follow this link: Interview about ECBO
