Choroidal melanoma
A retinal image showing malignant choroidal melanoma. This form of cancer is found in a layer under the retina called the choroid. Although rare, with only about 6-7 out of every million people in North America diagnosed with the condition each year, it is also the most common malignancy found in the eye. Current treatment options are limited, with larger tumors typically requiring removal of the affected eye. Aura Biosciences' laser-activated immunotherapy treatment has showed promise in limiting tumor growth and preserving vision in early-stage clinical trials. Image: West Coast Retina.
