QDI systems is a Dutch company, based in Groningen the Netherlands. It was founded in 2019 by Dr. Artem Shulga with a goal to innovate in the area of quantum dot image sensors. From founding to present, the company has gone through many breakthroughs, from the world’s first 2cm QD X-ray detector in 2020 to the worlds’ first full size QD mammography panel, but also the world’s first X-ray image (of a hand) with a QD detector. More recently the company has developed a breakthrough QD based CMOS Image sensor.
The company's strategy is to create new market opportunities for the QD sensor market on the basis of a platform technology. Out of many applications, the strategy will focus on two areas of particular applicability, X-ray and short-wave infrared (SWIR) image sensors. Both markets face significant challenges:
As a spin-off from the University of Groningen, the team has a strong scientific background, allowing QDI to be the innovator in offering quantum dot technology for the X-ray detector market, which is seeking for innovation the last 15 years.
