QDI systems B.V.

About

QDI systems is a Dutch company, based in Groningen the Netherlands. It was founded in 2019 by Dr. Artem Shulga with a goal to innovate in the area of quantum dot image sensors. From founding to present, the company has gone through many breakthroughs, from the world's first 2cm QD X-ray detector in 2020 to the worlds' first full size QD mammography panel, but also the world's first X-ray image (of a hand) with a QD detector. More recently the company has developed a breakthrough QD based CMOS Image sensor.

The company's strategy is to create new market opportunities for the QD sensor market on the basis of a platform technology. Out of many applications, the strategy will focus on two areas of particular applicability, X-ray and short-wave infrared (SWIR) image sensors. Both markets face significant challenges:

  • In X-ray and in particular Mammography the current diagnostic accuracy is insufficient. 1 out of 8 women receive a false negative diagnosis. Quantum dot technology aims to improve image quality and subsequently diagnostic accuracy.
  • In SWIR, mobile phone manufacturers have the desire to improve the quality of facialrecognition sensors and integrate these below screen. The high sensitivity of quantumdots allows it to be suitable for SWIR and this enables a solution for improved quality of the sensor and the ability to place it under the screen.

As a spin-off from the University of Groningen, the team has a strong scientific background, allowing QDI to be the innovator in offering quantum dot technology for the X-ray detector market, which is seeking for innovation the last 15 years.
