The Richardson Grating Laboratory is preparing a new 40,000 square foot site for manufacturing "telecommunications-grade" replicated diffraction gratings, and other photonics devices. The company also plans to increase the size of its workforce considerably.
Gary Baccaro, principal member of the technical staff at the company, explained, " We see fairly substantial growth in the industry with no end in sight." He added that this growth is not only in telecommunications but also in photonics in general.
The new manufacturing facility is in Pittsford, a 15 minute car ride away from the company's headquarters in Rochester, NY. The first phase, expanding the production capacity, is scheduled for completion in July 2000. Additional research and development facilities and office space will be added in 2001, as well as other manufacturing capabilities.
